rainbow hot dog

ingredients

  • Dietz & Watson Originals Uncured Beef Franks
  • 1 package of hot roll mix
  • 1 package of instant yeast
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup hot water
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/8 tsp gel food coloring (red, orange, yellow, green, blue)

directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
  2. To make the bun, mix together the hot roll mix, yeast, unsalted butter, hot water and a large egg. Mix until dough forms into a ball.
  3. Remove dough from the mixer and shape dough into a rectangle, about 2 inch thick.
  4. Cut the dough into 5 thick strips with a bench scraper.
  5. Take a piece of dough and in a bowl add the food coloring and massage into the dough. Do this step for each color.
  6. Arrange each colored piece of dough side but side and using a rolling pin roll all of the colors into a striped sheet.
  7. Cut the colored dough into vertical strips so that it can be wrapped around each hot dog.
  8. Lay the wrapped dogs onto a nonstick sheet tray and brush with egg whites.
  9. Bake in the oven for 50 minutes.
  10. Once baked, remove from the sheet tray, dip in your favorite Dietz & Watson mustard and enjoy!
